One City Community Center
610 Independence
Cape Girardeau, MO
When the dream of uniting our city began, we knew behind that dream there would be a building. A central place where all people would be welcome, a place to bridge gaps and resources, a place we would call the Community Center. For years we waited, searched, and drove neighborhoods while praying for the right location. Through friends, relationships, and God, it became clear this old warehouse at 610 Independence was the place.
The pulse of One City is this building, the old warehouse that serves as the One City Community Center. The Community Center is a place where we value the life and experiences of each person in our community. It is a place where we believe unity and collaboration for the betterment of our community begins. At the Community Center, all are welcome, no matter where you live or the color of your skin. It is a place where loving your neighbor begins and is encouraged.
We have no idea what all the future holds with this building and all the space it offers. We do trust and believe that this specific location is chosen by God. While praying, researching, and considering this building for the Community Center, we received more confirmation through the scriptures below that we should pursue this building, specifically. The 610 number has many of the scriptures that we would use to describe the mission of One City Community Center.
Matthew 6:10 From the Lord’s Prayer “Your kingdom come Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” We see the community center full of people from different sides of town, different colors, different socioeconomic backgrounds. Like it says “on earth as it is in heaven,” One City is a place where people can serve together to truly build each other up. It is a place where churches and people can volunteer together. It is a place where people, who have been wanting to give back for so long, will finally have a place to do so.
God’s Kingdom looks diverse, multi-ethnic, and is the full picture of the body of Christ.
“On earth as it is in heaven,” One City is a place where where ALL people are welcome as the diverse body of Christ.
Ephesians 6:10 (The Armor of God) Finally be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
John 6:10 (Feeding of the 5,000) “Jesus said, ‘Have the people sit down.’ There was of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them.’ (5,000 men and their families fed not only by Jesus teaching but He also met their physical need for food. We know this place will be used for community dinners and feeding those in need.)
Hebrews 6:10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
